Family Budget

Terms of Service

Version 1.0 · Effective 12 September 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Levi Dance (“we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of Family Budget (the “Service”). By creating or joining a budget, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create a budget or to hold a paid subscription (to be the account owner).
  • Household members may be under 18. A budget owner may invite household members, including their own children, as members. If you invite anyone under 18, you do so as their parent or guardian: you are responsible for them, you consent to their use of the Service on their behalf, and you control what they can see and do. A member under 18 must not be made responsible for payment.
  • The Service is currently offered on an invite-only basis. Access may be limited, changed or withdrawn.
  • You sign in through Google. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for all activity that happens under it, and for the accounts of any members you invite.

2. What the Service is

Family Budget is an envelope-style household budgeting tool. You enter your own income, categories and transactions, and the Service helps you plan and track how you allocate your money across pay cycles.

3. Pre-release (alpha) software

The Service is currently in an early alpha. That means:

  • It is provided for evaluation and everyday use, but features may change, break or be removed without notice.
  • Despite our care, calculations or automated processes could contain errors, and data could be lost or corrupted.
  • You are responsible for keeping your own records. We strongly recommend you export your data periodically using the export feature.

4. This is not financial advice

Family Budget is a budgeting and record-keeping tool only. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and nothing in the Service is a recommendation to take or not take any financial action. Figures shown are based on the information you enter and are estimates for planning purposes — they are not a substitute for your bank's records or advice from a licensed professional. You are responsible for your own financial decisions. Always verify important figures against your actual accounts.

5. Your data and content

  • The budget data you enter remains yours. You grant us the limited permission needed to store, process and display it in order to operate the Service for you and your household.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter.
  • How we handle personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for anything unlawful, or to store data you have no right to store;
  • attempt to access another household's data, or to probe, disrupt or circumvent the security of the Service;
  • interfere with or place an unreasonable load on the Service, or use it to build a competing product; or
  • reverse engineer or misuse the Service.

7. Subscriptions, trial and billing

The alpha is currently free — we do not charge you to use the Service during this period. We may introduce paid subscriptions in the future. If and when we do, the following apply and we will make the terms clear before you are asked to pay:

  • Paid plans are expected to be offered with a 30-day free trial, after which a subscription of A$60 per year would apply.
  • Payments would be processed by Stripe, and a subscription would renew automatically for successive periods unless you cancel before the renewal date.
  • You could cancel at any time. Cancellation stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • If a payment fails, we may retry it and give you a short grace period before access is suspended.
  • Except where required by law (including the Australian Consumer Law), payments are non-refundable. Prices may change on reasonable notice.

Whether or not you are paying, you can always export your own budget data from the Service.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free or available at any particular time. We may perform maintenance, and may modify or discontinue features.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including as to accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or that the Service will be secure or free of errors or data loss. This clause does not exclude the consumer guarantees described in section 11.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to section 11:

  • we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profits, savings or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service; and
  • our total liability to you for all claims connected with the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Because the Service is a planning tool that relies on the data you enter, we are not responsible for financial decisions you make, or for any discrepancy between the Service and your actual accounts.

11. Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy that you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where we are permitted to limit our liability for a breach of a non-excludable guarantee, our liability is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the Service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied.

12. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and close your budget at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; you remain able to export your data as described above, subject to a reasonable period.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the version and effective date at the top of this page, and where appropriate we will notify you in the Service. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Tasmania, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that place.
